Kurt Traylor has over 20 years of experience as a successful high school football coach. He comes to Robert E. Lee High School with a solid record of achievement and excellence in motivating both students and coaching staff. During his career Coach Traylor’s teams have made 5 appearances in the state finals and became the 4A Division II State Champions in 2004, 2009 and 2014. In his first year as the head coach at Robert E. Lee, Coach Traylor compiled an overall record of 6-4. This marked Tyler Lee’s first winning season since 2008. The season was capped off with a win over cross-town rival John Tyler.

Apart from winning football games, Coach Traylor has started several different programs at Lee: Adopt a Raider, Elementary Mentor Program, Pre-Game Devotionals, Honorary Teachers Captains’ Program, Character Trait Program, BEAST Texas Passing Academy, Advisory Committee, and the Coaches Outreach Program.

Under Coach Traylor, the Lee football program has also been involved in numerous community service projects; Miracle Kids Network with Dairy Queen, School is Cool, various leadership nights at local elementary schools, Toys for Tots, and the Tyler Christmas Parade.

Coach Traylor played football on the offensive line at Gilmer High School, Cisco Junior College, and Southwest Baptist University. He received an Associate’s Degree of Science from Cisco Junior College and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health at Texas A&M Commerce. Prior to joining the Buckeye coaching staff in Gilmer, Texas, Coach Traylor was a graduate assistant at Texas A&M University. Coach Traylor is married to Katie who is a graduate of Gilmer High School and Texas A&M University. Katie works for TISD as a Professional Learning Specialist. They have 4 children, Allie, Rylie, Will, and Kole. Coach Traylor believes that the most important things in his life are faith, family, friends, and football!
